Patricia Murphy is an experienced pool and snooker referee.  She honed her craft after years of playing and dedicating herself to the rules that govern cue sports.  This dedciation started at a young age and moved her to seek guidance from other referees like Michaela Tabb.

Name: Patricia Murphy

Born: County Clare, Ireland

Lives: Stamford, Lincolnshire

Most memorable match: An exibition match between Ken Doherty and Paul Hunter in October 2004in Dublin, Ken made a 147, it was fantastic to referee.

Most embarrassing moment: When I refereed Jimmy White and Alex Higgens at an exibition in Limerick. The venue had a wooden floor and because of the echo of my heels Alex said in front of the whole place “You’re like a horse clip-clopping round the table” I didn’t know what to say! Thankfully I have never refereed on a wooden floor since!!

If you weren’t a referee what would you do? I couldn’t imagine not refereeing but if I had to choose anything other than that it would be to study sports psychology.

Which is the toughest rule to apply? Probably the miss rule. If a lot of balls are moved from their original positions it can be difficult to replace them.

Which rule would you scrap? At the moment none of them as they are all there for a reason.

What do you carry in your pockets? Two ball markers and a coin.

Where do you get your gloves? Gloves Online. It’s a company in America and I get them shipped over.

Interests: Playing poker, boxing, listening to music and spending time with my family in Ireland whenever I get the chance.
